| G1: Develop intercultural perspectives
|
Beyond the international environment we create, we will compare different approaches of how to contribute to the civil society in different cultures. |
| a. Learn to explore and overcome differences between group members (both CISV and non-CISV) |
By working together with fellow CISV’ers and the PO in the practical projects and in facilitated forums of discussions to explore and appreciate differences and similarities. |
| b. Understand how CISV’s goal of intercultural understanding, the theme and practical project are connected. |
By using insights from CISV’s international peace education methods to explore the Norwegian and participants thoughts and understanding of the theme of Collective actions towards a better community. |
| c. Explore the differences between the Partner Organisation’s way of working and CISV’s methods. |
By having the PO present themselves for the participants and take part in as much of the project as possible. |
| d. Gain a better understanding of how communication and decision making skills are part of intercultural competence. |
By working together with people from more than five different countries and cultures in the different projects, as well as living together for three intense weeks. |
| |
| G2: Learn to work together with IPP members, local community and/or partner organization.
|
We will learn about the PO and how they work by including them as participants of the project together with the rest of the IPP members. |
| a. Interact with and learn about members of the local community and Partner Organization. |
By having the PO present themselves for the participants and take part in as much of the project as possible. |
| b. Develop attitudes, skills and knowledge that can contribute to the IPP’s cooperation with the PO and Community and can contribute to a participant’s life outside the IPP. |
By fully taking part in the projects with a flexible, open-minded attitude in order to develop and enhance the ASK’s required for the project, which will contribute to richer understanding of the community’s cultures during and after the IPP. And by making a book or a film that the participants can take home, presenting the results of the project. |
| c. Improve evaluation skills by contributing to ongoing evaluations of the IPP. |
By fully taking part of the evaluation processes during the IPP and reflecting on one’s own behaviour during the whole IPP. |
| d. Learn to respond constructively to any changes in the planned IPP, as well as any misunderstandings or conflicts that may arise during the IPP. |
By using evaluation processes to reflect, but also re-construct and by keeping a flexible, open-minded attitude during the whole IPP. |
|
| G3: Develop an understanding of the local and global context of the theme. |
We hope delegations will come prepared with their own local knowledge about the theme. We will let them have national activities/presentations to share their knowledge with others. |
| a. Increase understanding of the Theme before the IPP. |
By preparation of the theme in the home countries; perhaps by looking at how they use collective actions in their local communities. |
| b. Learn to facilitate an activity with the group to explain how the theme relates to your culture (where culture may be based on geography, nationality, age, gender, or other factors). |
By preparing, but most importantly by executing a national activity related to the theme, during the IPP. |
| c. Gain an understanding of the local perspectives of the theme in the host country. |
By including PO and other externals during the project to let the participants reflect and learn about the local perspectives of the theme. |
| d. Gain an awareness of how the theme is connected to all parts of the IPP and how to increase the connection when needed. |
By having the staff presenting how the activities are connected to the IPPs goals at the beginning of the project and letting the participants take ownership of the theme and evaluate and adjust the activities to meet the goals throughout the project. |
|
| G4: Learn to carry out a sustainable project relevant to a need of the local community and evaluate its success. |
Participants will help develop the project. We will give them space and time to contribute activities, facilitate discussions, and be creative with the theme. |
| a. Learn to recognize a need and target an action to the need |
By having the participants recognize a need in their community, before the project. This needs will be discussed among the participants and action plans will be made for each need. |
| b. Contribute to the planning and evaluation of the practical project |
By organize the project group so everybody can fully take part in the practical parts of the project. |
| c. Learn to effectively lead a group |
By letting the participants take the lead of the group, involving executing the practical and the theoretical part of the project. |
| d. Contribute to the future plan for the practical project, whether in the host location or in another place. |
By focusing on how to disseminate the results of the project in the host country, the participants home countries and CISV International. |
